Welcome to

Pacific Day Surgery

The Pacific Day Surgery is designed for the comfort and safety of patients who require hospitalisation only for a short period of time.

The staff are here to give you support before, during and after your surgery.

Our nurses and visiting medical consultants will prepare you for surgery and provide you with information on safe management and care at home.

Important Information to read before your Surgery

Questions to ask your Doctor

Write a list of questions and be sure you get all your questions answered. Some important questions include:

  • Whether there are any prescription or non-prescription medications that you should avoid taking or stop taking temporarily before your procedure.
  • What you can or cannot eat or drink before your surgery.
  • How long your recovery will take and how you might feel the first days, weeks or months after surgery.
  • What kind of supplies, equipment and help you need when you go home after your procedure.

Arrangements to Make

If you are having a general or neurolept anaesthetic procedure, arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after the surgery,
and have a responsible adult stay with you at home overnight.

If you have small children, make child care arrangements so you may rest when you return home.
We encourage you not to bring small children to the Day Surgery as we do not have facilities for their care.

If the patient does not speak English, or is in need of an interpreter, please bring one with you.

Documents to bring.

Please bring with you:

  • Any forms that you have not yet posted,
  • A list of medication you are currently taking,
  • Your Medicare Card,
  • Your private health fund membership details if relevant and
  • A method of payment for account settlement.

The night before your surgery.

Please do not eat or drink anything for 6 hours prior to your surgery. If you need to take essential medications, you must do so with no more than a sip of water no later than 3 hours before your surgery unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.

If you do not follow these guidelines your surgery may have to be cancelled.

If you smoke, you are advised to refrain from smoking the day before your surgery.
